JEAN, duc de Guise (1874-1940)
Very interesting historical letter in which he announces to his mother, the birth of her son, Henri future count of Paris (1908-1999). L.A.S. "Jean d'Orléans", addressed to the Duchess of Chartres, born Princess Françoise d'Orléans (1844-1925), dated 5-07-08, on the letterhead of her residence Le Nouvion, in-8°, 2 pages. Good condition "My good dear mother, although a little tired, I have just written to Plombière à Papa and I want to tell you how much I think of you. You must have been really happy to have a French grandson and a grandson from Orleans. I'm gaga, we were all counting on a girl. The child is beautiful, 3.75 kilos, good... blond hair, small feet, for us... And he was born at 830 this morning. Bull [his wife, Princess Isabelle of Orleans] didn't really suffer until after 3:00 a.m. and it was wonderful. Bull is very proud and glorious. I wish this little fellow a useful, busy life even though he lives in France under a regime where the laws brutally condemn him. The Nouvion is celebrating the coming of a prince announced from the pulpit at mass. Tomorrow, civil status, the day after tomorrow, a rippling wave will follow. Ball and the baby are doing so well that no medical report is necessary. I saw the mother... dancing with joy at the sight of the baby's male sex. "We give you a big hug, your son who loves you so much."
