MARIE-ANTOINETTE, Queen of France (1755-1793). Fragments of a court dress that once belonged to the sovereign, made of ivory-coloured silk satin embroidered with small polychrome flower bouquets, with applications of floral motifs in velvet and tulle on a pink background. It is preserved in a modern giltwood frame with a handwritten note bearing the inscription in Swedish: 'Af Marie Antoinette robe. Köpt af Friherrinnan C. M. Alströmer model silfverschiold is Paris af defo Kammarfru in 1794". Good general condition. French work, circa 1780. Frame: H.: 74, 5 cm - W.: 46, 5 cm. History: according to the family tradition and as indicated in the preserved document accompanying the fabric elements. The latter are said to have come from a dress that belonged to Queen Marie-Antoinette and were given in 1794 by a chambermaid of the sovereign to Countess Christina Maria Alströmer (1762-1840) and have since been preserved in her direct descent.
