Engaging embroidery from Dresden, mid-18th century. In cotton muslin richly embroidered with a large garland of foliage and flowers in star shape, filled with the motifs and the background entirely embroidered with a large number of spread stitches. Creamy white colour. Dim. 89 cm x 12.5 cm at widest. (nice condition, a few small accidents on the upper edge) See "Embroidered with white" Mrs. Heather Toomer, p.63, 65 & 156. Sleeve ruffle of fine whitework on cotton muslin, Dresden stitch, Germany, dating from the middle of the 18th century. White-cream in colour.
