Pair of beards, Alençon, needlework, France, circa 1750-1760, made of extremely fine needlework lace decorated with supple flowering twigs and large cartouches decorated with various patterns along the edge. Extremely fine, cream-coloured linen. (fine network restorations, a few small stains) Provenance: Christie's sale, London, June 1991. A pair of lappets of fine handmade French Alençon needle lace with branch of flowers and medallions worked in various stitches, dating from about 1750-60. Very fine linen thread, cream in colour. (a few fine repairs to the ground, a very few stains) Provenance: Christie's sale, London, June 1991.
