Pan de cravat, transition lace, needle, late... - Lot 168 - Coutau-Bégarie
Pan de cravat, transition lace, needle, late 17th century. Probable French work of transition between the Venetian Coraline and the Point de France developed from the creation of the Royal Manufactures initiated by Colbert in 1665. The centre is very finely worked with a needle using the Coraline technique, but with a well-structured mirror decoration with a central composition of fine curved branches adorned with flowers in various points and linked by pocketed flanges, the border with fleurs-de-lys, the symbol of French royalty. Light ivory linen on garnet satin. Dim. lace: 49 cm x 25 cm Collection Margaret Simeon, formerly John Jacoby Collection, husband of Mrs Sara Olga Iklé. Provenance: Phillips sale, London, November 1992. Cf. "L'Europe de la Dentelle" Mrs Martine Bruggeman, p.52 on the right hand side
