Border, Cut Point, Italy, late 16th century. Hand-spun and hand-woven ivory-coloured linen, needle-embroidered with nine horizontal stripes in Counted Stitch and Reticella, each decorated with different motifs well in the spirit of Frederic de Vinciolo or Matteo Pagano's pattern books "Ornamento delle belle & virtuoso donne" Pompon at each of the bottom corners. Dim. 64 cm x 14 cm (good condition, a few stains on the reverse) An Italian sampler of hand spun and woven linen embroidered in Cut work and Reticella, dating from the 2nd half of the 16th c, similar design found in pattern book of Matteo Pagano "Ornamento delle belle & virtuoso donne" or Frederic da Vinciolo . Dim. 64 cm x 14 cm (good condition, a few stains at the revers)
