Mother of pearl inlay, circa 1880 Rare folded... - Lot 203 - Coutau-Bégarie
Mother of pearl inlay, circa 1880 Rare folded fan, the leaf painted on a beige background of decorations, in the Chinese taste, reminding the works of Peyrotte or Pillement in the 18th century. Painted in red, they are represented in a green environment. Reverse side painted on a red background of gold subjects, in the Chinese taste, including two women walking a dog, men with lanterns among pavilions and pagodas in the exotic spirit. Unpublished goldfish mother-of-pearl mount, applied with burgau mother-of-pearl and streaked with haliotide mother-of-pearl. The wooden plumes are plated with mother of pearl burgau and mother of pearl haliotide to create stripes. Engraving on the back plume, near the rivet "Breveté SGDG". It could be the patent filed by Alexandre Loizel in 1879 which refers to improvements in the manufacture of fans for a mother-of-pearl inlay. H.t. 28,7 cm - H.f.16,2 cm (small lacks, small restoration) Read: M. Volet, "L'imagination au service de l'éventail. Les brevets déposés en France au 19e siècle, Imagination and its contribution to fans, Patents deposited in France in the 19th century", Vesenaz, 1986, p. 236, notice 300.
