The pain of absence, circa 1820 Folded fan, the paper sheet engraved and enhanced with gouache in grisaille of a neo-Gothic scene. A young man cuts a lock of hair on the head of a young woman, under the amused gaze of Love. On the reverse, dressed in mourning clothes, a young girl and her mother are crying in front of a mortuary stele, in the shade of a weeping willow. A grave on the left bears a long inscription in Spanish: (...) enamos/ nuestra afliccion/ Lloras la perdida de tu hijo, cara esposa mia...! !/ Ven moremos/ y mezdemos las/ lagrimas de nuestro mutuo y legitio dolor". [We love/ our affliction/ You cry for the loss of your son, my dear wife...! Come, let us die/ and let us mix the/ tears of our mutual and legitimate pain]. Bone and black wood frame with geometric decoration enhanced with steel flakes. H.t. 22,5 cm - H.f. 12,8 cm (cuts, accidents) Provenance : former René d'Allemagne collection (1863-1950).
