Dido and Aeneas surprised by the storm, ca. 1820-1830 Folded fan, the paper sheet lined with skin, painted with gouache of a woman holding a bow. She is guiding a hunter with a pike toward a cave, while a storm is rumbling. This is the rare representation of Dido and Aeneas surprised by a storm caused by Venus. The reverse side painted with golden scrolls, in bouquet. Rare steel mount, the golden brass plumes enhanced with green stones. Gilded metal clasp. H.t. 21,7 cm - H.f. 13,5 cm (accidents, restorations) Provenance: label bearing the reference "1845" of the former collection of the famous amateur Henry-René d'Allemagne (1863-1950).
