The Chimney Sweeps, ca. 1827 Engraved fan leaf, unmounted, showing a group of chimney sweeps in the countryside, some dancing, others fighting or playing cards. A peddler is accompanied by a young child on the right. The mountains in the background are reminiscent of Savoy, their home country. At the place of the throat, title "Fan/ Les ramoneurs", and mention in the lower border: "Tiré du Cabinet de Mr C.F.A. de Mussey" "Gravé par Lorieux. Voyez Lettre 492, tome IV, page 288" referring to the letter of Madame de Sévigné to her daughter on May 8th 1676. This engraving was published in 1827 in the "Lettres inédites de Madame de Sévigné" from the cabinet of M. de Mussey. In a wood marquetry frame. H. 11,7 cm x L.17,8 cm (at sight)
