Hermit on the road, circa 1800-1820 Rare... - Lot 152 - Coutau-Bégarie
Hermit on the road, circa 1800-1820 Rare folded fan, the double sheet in gray silk embroidered on one register with golden sequins, and on a second with a panoramic scene. Peasants, in a boat or near a house, animate a view of countryside punctuated by trees. On the side of a hill a hermit leaning on a cane and carrying a rosary joins a chapel. Perhaps an illustration of the life of Saint Anthony? Dumb reverse. Blonde horn mounting. H.t. 20 cm - H.f. 13,3 cm (wear, restorations) N.B. : representations of hermits are known in the embroidery of convent in particular at the beginning of the XIXth century
