Rectangular ointment and perfume box made... - Lot 110 - Coutau-Bégarie
Rectangular ointment and perfume box made of tortoiseshell quilted with gold and silver. Richly decorated with all-sided birds in a stylised vegetation, decorated with foliage and shells. The compartmentalised interior contains four glass bottles with their tortoiseshell caps, two pomanders and an egg-shaped box with their little spoon. Naples, circa 1730-1740, attributed to the workshops of Antonio de Laurenzii. H. 14.5 cm - W. 19.5 cm - D. 14.5 cm (A few lacks in the marquetry, but complete with all its utensils). The workshops of "Laurenzii" or "Laurentii" are distinguished by the exclusive use of gold on the tortoiseshell and not mother-of-pearl. Certainly a goldsmith at the origin, we know of Laurenzii's production a ewer and its basin, a pair of candleholders forming part of a set of toiletries from the former collection of Robert de Rothschild. Bibliography: A. Kugel, "Complètement Piqué, Le fol art de l'écaille à la cour de Naples", Editions Monelle Hayot, 2018. This specimen made from parts and fragments of scales of Cheloniidae spp. is well before June 1, 1947. It is classified in Appendix I under the Washington Convention, in Appendix A of European Community Regulation 338/97 of 09/12/1996, as well as in the French Environmental Code. However, for an exit from the EU, a CITES re-export will be necessary, this being at the expense of the future buyer.
