SAXE, Manufacture de Meissen
Pair of Maiblumen vases. The vases around 1740-1745. (small lacks) Rocaille frame in chased and gilded bronze from the 19th century. H.: 20 cm. A pair of identical vases kept in the Louvre Museum, Department of Works of Art OA8062-8063. This pair of vases perfectly represents the type of porcelain objects produced in Meissen and sought after by French customers. Some Parisian merchants, such as Lazare Duvaux, used to embellish these porcelains with gilded bronze mounts. Representing couples on a walk or in love, the four painted decors are pastiches of several engravings after the great masters of the fêtes galantes.
