Amaranth veneered bookcase opening to three glazed doors, with a central recessed front featuring a doucine cornice and a scalloped plinth base. Chased and gilded bronze ornamentation such as falls, clasps, lock escutcheons and foliate fillets. Regency period. Stamped CAREL. Jacques- Philippe Carel (1688-1755) cabinetmaker received his master's degree in 1723. Restorations, some bronzes probably added. Height : 174 cm - Width : 196 cm - Depth : 47 cm With its characteristic lines, our elegant bookcase is similar to the one sold in 2012 (Christie's Paris sale, Wednesday, November 7, 2012, lot 90). Several other bookcases of this model are referenced. For example, a pair sold in 2001 (Christie's New York, October 26, 2001, lot 240) and again in 2016 (Christie's Paris, May 3-4, 2016, Le Goût Français, lot 141).
