Alfred Nicolas Martin (1868-1947) - Lot 215
Alfred Nicolas Martin (1868-1947) The Jean Goujon room at the Louvre Museum About 1914 Oil on cardboard. 18 x 24 cm This sketch is preparatory to the painting kept in the Louvre Museum under the inventory number Inv. 20245 (see previous lot). Standing out from the red background we can distinguish or guess: the Virgin of Sorrow and the Monument of the Heart of Henri II by Germain Pilon, the Diana of Anet by Jean Goujon, the Mausoleum of the Heart of Louis de Cossé, Duke of Brissac, by Le Hongre. Also clearly visible are the wooden caryatids of the chasse de Sainte Geneviève, whose attribution is now disputed and whose presentation is radically different. Bibliography: I Compin and A.
