Aquatic flora and fauna; barracudas and papyrus Rare and important vase in the Symbolist style, depicting courage and rebirth; truncated cone-shaped base, dented shoulder, quadrangular finished neck with curved rim. Enameled ceramic proof with polychrome title decoration, metallic lustre and rich iridescent effects; eggplant, mordor, turquoise and green. Circa 1900. Signed Clément MASSIER Golfe Juan (A.M.) in the brush and debossed with the manufacturer's stamp on the reverse. Height: 41.5 cm Weighted bottom. Public collection and related work : MAK, Museum für angewandte Kunst, Vienna, Austria - A smaller vase of identical form is held in the collections of this institution under inventory number MAK KE 4075 (purchased from the artist in 1899); the same vase featured in an 1899 photograph held in this same institution under inventory number KI 7348-1.
