ÉCOLE FRANÇAISE DU XIXE SIÈCLE. D'APRÈS DANIEL SAINT (1778-1847).
Portrait of the empress Josephine (1763-1814). Beautiful miniature of oval form, painted on ivory, representing the young empress, posing slightly in three quarters, adorned with a court dress, a magnificent diadem, a necklace and pearl earrings, preserved under a curved glass in a gold frame. On the reverse side a mother-of-pearl plate is engraved with the inscription: "Don de l'impce (l'impératrice) Josephine 1808 to Alexe (Alexandre) Lenoir ". Slight wear from the time. Sight : H. : 5 cm - L. : 3,8 cm. Reference: several miniatures exist representing the empress posing in the same outfit, one of which is signed by Daniel Saint and is kept in the collections of the National Museum of Malmaison and Bois-Préau (ref: M.M.40.47.6103). History: Alexandre Lenoir (1761-1839), is known for having created and administered the Musée des Monuments français.
