OZANNE Nicolas-Marie
New perspective views of the ports of France... Paris, Le Gouaz, [1784-1786]. In-4 oblong, 41 x 27cm, [1]f., 60 + 16 plates (out of 18), 1 map, mounted on tabs, bound in the second half of the 19th century with green chagrin ribbed spine decorated with gilt boxes, large framing of cold filets and gilt angular fleurs-de-lis on the green percaline boards. Famous suite of 60 views of the ports of France drawn mainly by Ozanne in 1776 and engraved by his son-in-law Yves-Marie Le Gouaz. The map in fine is dated 1791. The second suite includes: the 8 views of the ports of the West Indies drawn in 1780, engraved by Jeanne Françoise Ozanne, sister of the author, and published around 1785; the views of Brest and Toulon, published around 1785; and 6 views (out of 8) published in 1793 to which the last two, Cherbourg and Bordeaux, are missing. Beautiful handwritten title-frontispiece finely drawn in wash, depicting three ships in an exotic harbor, added after the title leaf. Bound after the same: Cahier de quelques vaisseaux à la voile. Paris, vve F. Chereau, circa 1760. 6 plates. Very rare and beautiful suite of 6 plates engraved by Pierre Ozanne, younger brother of Nicolas. A fine copy, with large margins, of a very fresh edition. Faint spotting. One corner (Caen plate) repaired, small hole in the first plate of the Cahier.
