Novum ac magnum theatrum urbium Belgicæ regiæ [-liberæ ac fœderatæ]... [Amsterdam, the author, 27September 1649-1652]. 2 vols. large in-folio, 34 x 51cm, [294] ff. & [236] ff. of which one folded, contemporary Dutch binding in ivory parchment with flaps, large framing of roulettes with gilt spandrels and central plate on the boards, spines decorated with gilt faux-nerfs and small gilt fleurons, early nineteenth-century brown calf title-pieces, renewed green silk laces, gilt and chased edges. Third Latin edition of Blaeu's famous atlas of the cities of the former Netherlands. Magnificently illustrated, with numerous animated scenes and a multitude of shimmering coats of arms, with 2 title-frontispices, 1 plan on triple plate, 228 plans on double plates (of which 66 are half-page), 25 plans on single plates (of which 12 are half-page or quarter-page), 80 views on double plates (of which 62 are half-page), 1 view on single plate, 1 view and 4 medals engraved on metal in the text and 9 woodcut sketches in the text. The whole is finely watercolored and the titles-frontispieces are enhanced with gold. A very nice copy, very fresh and wide margins, in its original binding. From the library of Livingston Ludlow Biddle (engraved heraldic ex-libris). Missing title pieces. Small tear to the upper spine of the second volume. Worm damage in the margins of the last quarter of the first volume, more important on about twenty leaves. Koeman I, pp. 316-323: Bl 66-67.
