Oak staircase carved with an extraordinary... - Lot 201 - Coutau-Bégarie
Oak staircase carved with an extraordinary rocaille pattern, topped by a cat at the damping, above a coat of arms Work probably from Liege around 1750/60 H. 133 cm, L. : 51 cm, W. : 21 cm (Accidents et manques) Note: The cat on the banister, symbol of the guardian of the home, takes here the form of a big angora cat. This type of cat is very fashionable under Louis XV, like the representation of Brilliant white angora cat of king Louis XV known by the painting of Jean-Jacques Bachelier (painted around 1761), preserved in the Lambinet Museum of Versailles
