UDERZO, Albert 1 (1927-2020)
Belloy, The man who was afraid of his shadow. India ink for plate 10 (numbered 146 in continuity with the other stories) of the album. Originally published in 1958 in the newspaper "Pistolin", it was reprinted in album by Deligne in 1977. Dimensions : 32 x 25 cm. Annotations in blue pencil. This original plate - which is not a bromide - was drawn and inked by Albert Uderzo in a slightly smaller format than the other pages in the album. These pages were drawn alternately with the cartoonist Pierre Dupuis, whose clumsy graphics stand in stark contrast to Uderzo's masterful inking. Some of Dupuis's plates were redrawn and re-inked with a light table by Uderzo, probably for the republication of Belloy's fourth adventure for the newspaper Pilote. The project will be abandoned, as Uderzo and Charlier are now each devoting themselves to other series. "L'homme qui avait peur de son ombre" is the only one of Belloy's four adventures that was not republished in "Pilote". Provenance: Lot sold during the auction "From the Journal Pistolin to the Weekly Pilote" organized by Master Roquigny, Sunday, May 24, 2015 in Saint Valery en Caux. It should be noted that Albert Uderzo had authorized the public sale of the Belloy plates from the estate of one of his former collaborators.
