MEURET François (1800-1887).
Portrait of the Princess de Joinville, née Francesca de Bragance, Princess of Brazil (1824-1898). Miniature on ivory, signed lower left by the artist, located in Neuilly and dated 1846, oval shape, preserved under glass in its original gilt bronze frame in the Louis XVI style, surmounted by a ribboned bow, with a suspension clip. Very good condition, missing on the reverse its easel foot. Sight: H.: 9.5 cm - W.: 7.5 cm. Frame: H.: 15.5 cm - W.: 11.5 cm. History: François Meuret, a pupil of Louis-François Aubry (1767-1851), was one of the most talented miniaturists of his time and the favorite portraitist of King Louis-Philippe and members of the Orleans family. The artist collaborated with the famous jeweller of the king, Mellerio dit Meller, in particular in the realization of brooches and bracelets decorated with the portraits of the children of France, which Queen Marie-Amélie was so fond of and which she wore on the official portraits representing her. We know that between 1830 and 1835 the sovereign ordered no less than forty portrait bracelets from this house. Some of them were sold during the succession of Monseigneur le Comte and Madame la Comtesse de Paris in 2008. Many of Meuret's miniatures can be found at the Château de Chantilly, the Château de Fontainebleau and in prestigious collections, such as those of the Queen of Great Britain and the King of the Belgians. Provenance: former collection of Madame la Comtesse de Paris, née Princess Isabelle d'Orléans-Bragance (1911-2003), from the Montpensier Pavilion in Eu and kept since then by descent. Reference: in the collections of the Musée Condé in Chantilly, there are several miniatures representing members of the royal family of Orléans painted by Meuret, in particular of the Duchess of Orléans, née Mecklembourg-Schwerin (1814-1858): Inventory OA 1718, Princess Marie-Clementine d'Orléans (1817-1907): Inventory OA1728, the Duchess of Aumale, née Marie-Caroline de Bourbon-Siciles (1822-1869): Inventory OA 1369, and Louis d'Orléans, Prince de Condé (1845-1866): Inventory OA 1729.
