Paul Hervy for Félix Alexandre The art of divination, circa 1854 Folded fan, the double sheet in skin painted with gouache. A gypsy woman in the center reads the palm of the hand of an elegant young woman surrounded by her friends. A musician accompanies the divination with music, while the many guests converse. Signed and dated lower right "Hervy 1854" for Paul Hervy. Portrait and landscape painter, he exhibited at the salon from 1845 to 1848. He regularly worked for the fan maker Alexandre, supplier of the Empress Eugénie. Reverse: figure among volutes and bouquets and garlands of flowers. Signed by the fan maker "Alexandre". Mother-of-pearl burgau mount engraved in the lower part of a pattern of scrolls and stylized foliage. Gilded metal hanger.
