Le Jardin d'Armide, a rare complete wallpaper decoration, drawing by the painter Edouard Muller, Manufacture Jules Desfossé, 1854, printed on a wooden plank in vivid polychromy. Central panel representing under a flowered pergola the statue of Armide above an abundant bouquet of flowers. The statue of Armide is a faithful reproduction of the statue of Pandora by James Pradier exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1850 and at the London Salon in 1851. Panel of four strips (small acc.) of 489 x 65 cm and 489 x 81 cm. Side panels decorated with a chandelier hanging in bronze with a bouquet, (small tears), 382 x 133 cm. At the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1855, Jules Desfossé is distinguished for his decoration by a first class medal; noticed by Emperor Napoleon III, Desfossé receives in 1856 the order of a hanging with crowned Ns and bees for the baptism of the Imperial Prince. Related works: The Musée d'Orsay and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs conserve elements of this decoration, (DO 1980 20) and (MAD inv.22632, 29810 and 52443).
