Telescopic fan, China, 19th century Folded fan with pocket or telescopic system. The double sheet of paper is painted on both sides with palace scenes featuring 40 characters. All wear silk garments, and have their heads cut out and applied. Mounted in black lacquered bamboo, with gilded decoration of literati in a garden. Gilded metal clasp. Height 26 cm-Closed H.t. 20 cm- H.f. 11 cm (restorations, cuts, missing parts) In its original black lacquered bamboo box with gold decoration, bearing Chinese characters on a label on one side.
